We’ve all got hang-ups about our bodies, even Cheryl Cole claims she’s got bits she doesn’t like about herself (I’m not sure which bits they are mind you)! The important thing to remember is that you can look amazing whatever your body shape.
You just need to realise that even supermodels can’t wear anything (not without clever posing, photography and retouching anyway). There are clothes which are your friends and clothes which simply aren’t right for you.
No matter how much you love that belted 1950s-style dress, if you’re apple-shaped with a bit of a tummy (like me), it’s just not going to do you any favours! You’ll look and feel better if you dress to flatter your natural body shape!
1. Pear Shape
Pear shaped ladies are bottom-heavy with a smaller bust and usually a flat tummy. Balance out your curvy bum, hips and highs with bright bold tops, with large collars or lapels. Steer clear of tight-fitting skirts or skinny jeans which will emphasise your bum.
Pear-shaped celebrities: Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce
2. Hourglass shape
Hourglass girls have a curvy bust and hips with a smaller defined waist. It’s a really sexy shape so make the most of it by wearing waist-cinching belts and wrap around dresses but steer clear of baggy clothes which will hide that great waistline!
Hourglass celebrities: Nigella Lawson and Kelly Brook
3. Apple shape

Apple shaped girls tend to carry weight around their tummy without a well-defined waist (this is me!). The trick is to show off those legs or boobs without drawing attention to your waist. Empire line or drop-waisted clothes are great for you, but avoid belts around your middle or short cropped jackets.
Apple shaped celebrities: Drew Barrimore and Lorraine Kelly
4. Straight or rectangle shape
Straight or rectangle shaped girls are generally quite straight up and down without too many curves. You can easily get more curves by adding cinched belts and ruffled tops.
Rectangle-shaped celebrities: Mel C and Kat Deeley
5. Inverted triangle shape
Triangle shaped girls have a top-heavy figure with broad shoulders and/or a big bust in relation to slim hips and bum. Wear fuller skirts to balance your body shape, V neck and wrap tops will be great for girls with bigger boobs. Whatever you do steer clear of anything which adds volume to your top half, shoulder pads, frills and puffed sleeves are your worst enemies!
Triangle shaped celebrities: Renee Zelwegger and Dolly Parton
Note: There are also other shapes, like petite and athletic, I just haven’t got round to drawing pictures for those yet, so please bear with me! I’ll add those in when I get the chance!

There are basically five types of body shapes or figures each with its perfect bikini wear. These are the apple, hourglass, pear, rectangular and round shapes. The apple shape is characterized by a fuller upper body and smaller lower body unlike the pear shape which is the exact opposite. Rectangular bodies have an athletic structure with a small chest and a typically skinny frame all round. The hour glass figure is assumed to be the easiest to dress a bikini since women with this shape have a perfectly defined waist. The round shape women have a lot of weight in the tummy and not a well defined waist. The amazing thing is that each of these women has a bikini type that will make them stand out..
